Automation equipment here comes from several distinct technical bases, none of them dominant. Suppliers appear across 56 cities and the three largest hold 21% of the 126 in this category, led by Shanghai, Shenzhen and Wenzhou. Wenzhou's Liushi town in Yueqing is a low-voltage electrical base — switchgear, contactors and distribution products that end up inside control cabinets — anchored by firms such as Chint and Delixi and by Liushi Electrical City, built in 1990. Wuhan's Donghu high-tech zone, designated a national-level high-tech development zone by the State Council in 2001 and known as Optics Valley, concentrates laser processing equipment; Huagong Technology there supplies in-line laser welding for automotive body assembly, which is production-line automation rather than standalone tooling. Nanjing's Luhe district runs a CNC machine tool park established in 2001 and designated a Jiangsu provincial advanced equipment manufacturing base, with casting, machining, heat treatment and assembly in one local chain.

What this means for sourcing is that the category label covers very different factories. A control-cabinet builder near Wenzhou, a laser-systems integrator in Wuhan and a machine-tool maker in Nanjing all appear under industrial automation, and their supply chains barely overlap. Shanghai, Shenzhen and Guangzhou carry large shares in this sample without a documented manufacturing speciality for the category, and profiles there more often turn out to be trading or sourcing operations — worth reading each one for what the company actually builds.
