Other hardware is not a one-city industry in China. In this sample the category is genuinely scattered: the top three cities hold only 20% of the 147 suppliers profiled here, and the base runs across 67 cities. Shanghai, Wenzhou and Hangzhou take the largest shares, yet none dominates — Shanghai accounts for 8% of this category in our sample, Wenzhou 7%, and Fuzhou 5%. Shanghai's listings reflect a diverse trading and sourcing base rather than a single manufacturing speciality. Wenzhou is known for locks and lock accessories and holds titles including China's Lock Capital and China's Lock Export Base. Hangzhou's Lin'an district focuses on tool hardware, especially pliers, and carries the designation China's Tool Hardware Production Base from the China National Light Industry Council and the China Hardware Products Association (re-verified 2022). Taizhou covers several lines: valves and pipe fittings in Yuhuan (China's Valve Capital, awarded by the China Hardware Products Association in 2003), water pumps in Wenling Daxi (China's Hometown of Water Pumps), and plastic injection molds in Huangyan (China's Mold Hometown). Suzhou's Changshu Shanghu town is known as China's Shelving Hometown for metal storage racks, with a local chain from steel processing and welding through coating to assembly.

For a buyer this geography means product type, not a single hub, should set the itinerary. Locks point to Wenzhou; pliers and related hand tools to Lin'an; valves to Yuhuan; shelving to Changshu; pumps or molds to other Taizhou districts. Supporting supply chains sit inside those towns, so finishing and component capacity is usually local. The mix changes sharply between clusters — a lock maker in Wenzhou and a rack maker in Changshu are not substitutes. Treat Shanghai profiles as trading or sourcing companies unless the profile shows on-site manufacturing. Check each profile for what is actually manufactured; export volumes and production capacity are not verified here, so confirm those directly with the supplier.
